i cried
walking home in the drizzling rain
from the the metro stop to my warm bed
the sky was a soft mattress of blue
and the roads glistened orange.
i looked down and watched droplets plink
down on my green converse
the ones with a bright blue splotch on the right toe
and the cuffs of my blue jeans i took from
my mom becoming damper on my calves
his playlist blaring from my uncomfortable ear buds,
the soft drums and steady bass –
there was something beautiful about this
twenty minute span of time –
even though i thought my toes would freeze off –
the headlight of a red car flies past me
and i think
i am so glad i did not let you end me.
